A new CGES Working paper ‘Smoothening and Softening: The Interpreter as an Everyday Diplomat’ by Eline Helmer, a PhD student at the School of Slavonic and East European
Studies at University College London is now available on the website of the Centre for German and European Studies.
This paper resulted from a pilot study, conducted as part of the author’s PhD project 'Tact in Translation: Negotiating trust by the Russian interpreter, at home and abroad', supervised by Prof Anne White and Dr Seth Graham, UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES).
The CGES supported the author’s research stay in St. Petersburg as an award for winning our annual CGES Russian–European research papers competition held at the CGES of St. Petersburg University in November 2018.
The seventh Russian–European research papers competition will be announced this spring.
