The research project conducted by Eseniia Novokhatskaia, MA ‘SES’ student, focused on the problem of controversy of German collective memory and the way it influences the society and its perception of monuments devoted to German history based on the case of Neue Wache in Berlin. The research identifies the evolution of memorial conflict, analyses existing methods of working with historical trauma in other cases and presents possible options for the Neue Wache case. This research project was supported by the CGES and allowed Eseniia to do a study trip to Slovenia/Italy for Europe Lab 2019 organised by EU-Russia Civil Society Forum, Topographies of Memory: Culture of Remembrance and Urban Space workshop.
