The Joint German-Russian-Belgian Seminar ‘Russian Spring Academy’ was held in St. Petersburg for the seventh time as the continuation of the Summer European Academy 2018 organized at the European Academy of Otzenhausen, Germany. 21 German BA and MA students from Bielefeld University, Würzburg University, Gent University, and University of Koblenz-Landau took part in the ‘Russian Spring Academy’. The goal of the study trip was to give the participants a better understanding of Russian politics, history, society, and culture in an international atmosphere and mutual learning.

Workshop ‘Police, Justice and Homosexuality. Historical, Sociological, and Comparative Perspectives’. CGES – CIERA Workshop Series, Part 1

The Workshop brought together German and French researchers on the topic of ‘Police, justice and homosexuality. Historical, sociological, and comparative perspectives’. The participants had different disciplinary backgrounds like history, sociology, political sciences, gender studies, and law. During the workshop different questions regarding human rights, policing practices in connection with gender identity and criminal law were discussed. This activity is part of the workshop series where researchers of CGES and CIERA discuss questions around topics of human rights and gender identity.

Methodology of Comparative Study on Civil Society in the EU and Russia

The Workshop was organized to discuss the variety of participatory methods used in civil society studies in order to agree upon optimal methods for annual analytical reports on civil society in various EU countries and Russia. The Workshop took place for the fourth time in cooperation with the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum, a network of about 170 NGOs from the EU and Russia.
