June 26-27, 2015
As a follow-up to many previous activities in the field of urban studies and civil societies studies, the CGES participated in organizing the International Conference ‘The UNESCO World Heritage and the Role of Civil Society in Bonn‘. A similar event was held in St. Petersburg in 2012, also with the support of the CGES.
The Conference was organized before the annual session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee which in 2015 took place in Bonn, Germany. It brought together 125 international scholars and NGOs representatives from 35 countries and was aimed at the discussion of the role of civil societies in the protection of World Heritage Sites. After the general plenary presentations, the participants were divided into three panels where they discussed different cases and aspects of World Heritage protection in different countries.
As a result of the Conference, the Proceedings are being prepared for publication in English, German and Russian.
