The conference ‘Social Media and Social Movements’ was organized by the Laboratory for Internet Studies (NRU Higher School of Economics) for the second time in 2014, now with support by the Centre for German and European Studies. The conference aimed at the emerging – and vibrant – interdisciplinary community of scholars interested in digital society – a society where social life is embedded in rapidly developing communication technologies and media.

A series of intensive 8-hours trainings for PhD students and associate researchers of St. Petersburg State University in social and economic sciences were being held at the CGES office on August 31 – September 6.

The German-Russian Summer School for BA students was organized in 2014 for the fourth time in cooperation with the ASKO Foundation and the European Academy Otzenhausen with additional financial support from the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung and Stiftung Deutsch-Russischer Jugendaustausch. Since 2011, this activity and cooperation proved to be successful and useful. Moreover, the previous experiences were taken into account, and the programme was updated according to the feedback of the students from the last year.

The interdisciplinary Summer school ‘Russian Culture in Baltic Nature’ brought together an international team of academics in order to explore ideas and concepts of heritage within the historically complex Russia-Baltic-Finnish border regions.
