March 4, 2021
The annual Methodological Workshop on Research Methodology, Conceptualisation, Design and Presentation for PhD and MA students subtitled ‘What the hell is a research question? And why does my supervisor need it?’ calls for your applications.
Deadline: February 27, 2021
The Centre for German and European Studies (St. Petersburg State University — Bielefeld University) invites scholars working on their PhD and MA theses towards European topics or including European cases in comparative perspective to discuss their theses with Prof. Dr. Tatiana Zimenkova, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Germany and Dr. Verena Molitor, Bielefeld University, Germany on March 4, 2021 (16:00 – approx. 21:00) virtually.
During the workshop, the moderators give introductory insights into the phases of PhD work and some specifics of challenges in PhD research. They also discuss European approaches to PhD thesis conceptualisation as well as some insights into interdisciplinary and comparative perspectives. Then, the participants shortly (max. 15 minutes) present their research designs, concentrating on the main questions and problems they face. Discussion with other participants and experts follows, providing support in theoretical and methodological conceptualization and operationalization, detecting problematic fields of given PhD conceptions and suggesting some solutions.
The workshop is designed for PhD students in any phase of their research (and MA students working on the MA theses) in sociology, political science, history, cultural studies, journalism and other social sciences and humanities. One of our goals is to support the internationalisation of the research by junior scholars, providing them a possibility to address their topics in English.
Working language: English.
The moderators will nominate one participant to be granted a one-month CGES scholarship for a research trip (for field work or scientific consultations).
