A research trip of Dr Margarita Kuleva to the UK

In July 2019, Dr Margarita Kuleva, an associated researcher of the Centre for German and European Studies of St Petersburg University and a senior lecturer in sociology at National Research University Higher School of Economics conducted a research trip to the UK with the support of the CGES.

In the UK, Margarita expanded the research started by her PhD dissertation, which aimed at exploring particularities of cultural labour in Russia and the UK. A new spin of her research project is specifically devoted to gender inequalities in visual art in Russia and the UK. In particular, she conducted a series of interviews and observations in London, Leeds, and Manchester. Margarita has found social exclusion mechanisms operating in these two counties; interestingly, in both the size of the city mattered.

The results of this study will be published as a chapter in a collective monograph in Palgrave’s series ‘New working lives’.
