Welcome space, Gostiny Dvor, Nevsky pr. 35
This Saturday the guests of Fall meetings - 2018, organized by the German-Russian Exchange in cooperation with the Centre for German and European studies, met in St.Petersburg to discuss how advanced technologies influence the development of the European society.
Anja Abendroth from Bielefeld University, Germany made a presentation on how informatization changes labor in Europe. A heated debate broke around the issues of governmental control over the alternative types of online employment and social insecurity of employers and employees in this sphere. The participants agreed on the need for state regulation but the exact form of that is still to be elaborated.
Johannes Voswinkel from Heinrich-Boell-Stiftung and Thielko Grieß from Detschlandradio in Moscow showed how advanced technologies allow people to take more active part in the work of mass media but, at the same time, lower the quality of journalism owing to replacement of facts with emotional messages.
In addition to the discussions, an open space was organized, where guests could get to know each other better and ask speakers questions. Other workshops and public lectures, supported by the Centre of German and European studies, also took place during the Fall meetings 2018.
We look forward to seeing you at the Fall meetings next year!
